Boulez withdraws from LSO dates
Due to an eye condition, senior French conductor Pierre Boulez has had to withdraw from his concerts with the London Symphony Orchestra on 29 April and 8 May 2012 in the Barbican. Boulez, who will be 87 next Monday, is being replaced by a long-time associate of his, the Hungarian conductor Péter Eötvös, 68 (pictured right), and the two programmes remain unchanged.
- 29 April: with violinist Christian Tetzlaff and the London Symphony Chorus, is Debussy's Three Nocturnes,
Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No 1, Scriabin's Symphony No 4 (Poem of Ecstasy) - 8 May: with violinist Nikolaj Znaider and the London Symphony Chorus, is Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste and his Violin Concerto No 2, and Szymanowski's Symphony No 3 (Song of the Night)
Boulez has four further LSO concerts scheduled on tour with the repertoire in Paris and Brussels 1-4 May; it is unclear as yet how these are affected according to the LSO website.
