Competition for old British artists

Submitted by Jasper Rees on Thu, 12/04/2012 - 10:15

A new competition to honour the work of those British artists who can no longer be categorised as YBAs has been launched by – who else? – The Oldie. The OBA award will attempt to uphold traditional values in the visual arts and stem the tide of formaldehyde and elephant dung. Only figurative artists need apply. Ensuring that artists keep it real will be a judging panel including the sculptor Maggi Hambling, the Oldie editor Richard Ingrams and the arts correspondent of Country Life.

The situpulation for entry are as follows: the artist must be aged 60 by the end of this year and can submit only one work, which should be on paper or canvas, not larger than 36” x 30”, and must have been executed no earlier than 1 January 2011.  A shortlist of 10 will be announced on 17 August and the winner anointed on 16 October at an awards ceremony at the English Speaking Union in London.
